Three holidays a year (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veteran's Day) my town erects over twenty flags in rows in a small town park. The flags are loaned for the day by families bestowed with each flag upon the death of their loved one. It's a beautiful sight, both on a patriotic, as well as artistic level. I'm afraid I didn't do it justice, but hope you'll enjoy a bit of the beauty!
About Project 365
Thanks for stopping by my blog! This is Year 2 of my Project365 blog. What is a Project 365? It's a photo challenge involving people from all over the world posting one photo per day throughout 2011. Some photographers choose themes, however for now my photos will be totally random. I will be shooting with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi-18-55mm, 75-300mm zoom and 100mm 2.8 macro lenses. I edit in iPhoto and Photoshop Elements 9. Not all photos are "perfect"; the purpose is to make photography an everyday event.
I am not a professional. Photography has always been a diversion of mine. I am a primary grade teacher and passionate tech. enthusiast. I consider myself an experienced amateur with LOTS to learn!
You will find links to other photographers in the sidebar- do check them out! I have also joined the Flickr EdTech 365/2011 Group, and you can click this link to view the entire pool. I will be posting my photos to their group pool, as well as here on my photo blog. I welcome your constructive criticism!

Lots of Lupine
I was very excited to capture the above field of lupine, not far from my home. I even used my polarizing filter. Got home and uploaded to my camera and was so unimpressed with the colors in this shot. Turns out there are currently forest fires burning to the northwest of us in Canada. Many people across the state today saw the haze and could smell the smoke, and thought something nearby was on fire! People were even cautioned not to call the fire department unless they actually saw a fire of some sort! Fortunately the close-up shot of lupine came out much more brilliantly! Good luck with those fires, Quebec!

Hollow
I spent quite a bit of time outside today trimming up bushes and shrubs. After snipping a forsythia branch, I was surprised to find it totally hollow! I grabbed the camera (and macro lens). Mind you, this branch is actually the thickness of a pencil. I wonder what caused this branch to become hollow?

Hosta
I love hosta, mostly because it's so hardy and "idiot-proof"! I bought this hosta plant two weeks ago. It's been sitting in the garden bed ever since, in the plastic pot, still waiting for me to have time to plant it. With a three-day weekend in progress I hope to save some time to work in the garden.

Galileo Thermometer
My husband was given this Galileo thermometer years ago as a holiday gift. It consists of a sealed glass tube filled with water and floating bubbles. The bubbles are filled with a colored liquid, and tags hand from each denoting a particular temperature. As the room temperature changes, so does the density of the water, causing some bubbles to float, while others sink. The bubble that sinks the most denotes the current approximate temperature. It's a pretty ingenious little invention, and a lot of fun to photograph too!

Dandelion
I decided, after a rainy day, that the dandelions on the lawn having gone to seed might be an unusual subject for today. Not until I enlarged them did I see some of the interesting details, like the brown seeds beginning to separate from the center!

Unknown Bush-Spring Edition
This bush was my third post back in January. I called it Unknown Bush. I now believe it must be in the azalea family, given the blossoms. Decided to try for an unusual angle today. What a difference a season makes!

Bug Saga
So...funny story (not). I took a medical day off today for a mid-day doctor's appointment, and decided to finally get my '79 Bug inspected early this morning. (Everything was in order- it just needed an inspection.) On the way to the garage I got stopped due to... yes- no inspection. A bus load of local students drove by while I was pulled over. I'm sure many of them knew me! It passed inspection, however on the way home (being an older Bug), it blew a fuel line. I sat on the side of the road for an hour waiting to be towed. Given that it's an older Bug, it loses about one fuel line per year. My husband joked tonight that perhaps it should say "fuel EJECTION" on the back instead! Very possibly!
