Japanese Beetle

The Japanese beetles have arrived. They've wreaked havoc on my poor blueberry bush here. Colorful little critters. But destructive.

Chilling In The Window

It's been a few weeks since the last Graham-pic. Cooler, drier air has finally filtered down from Canada (thank you, Canadian friends). One of Graham's favorite evening activities is to sit in the window, look about the yard, and take in the cool breezes. The tough life of a cat!

Lake Sunset

Okay, so this is slightly "cheating". Unfortunately, of all the photos I took last night and today at the lake, these two were my favorites, and (technically) taken last night. Couldn't resist the at- and after-sunset shades in the sky. This place is and always will be my "happy place"!

Morning Potatoes

Back at the lake for a work weekend and tenting out. This morning tried out potatoes and southwestern eggs. YUM!

Stained Glass Light

A few years ago (before the house painting) we renovated our kitchen. My husband installed this stained glass light over the sink. I really love the iridescent shades that stained glass gives off, as well as the patterns around the bottom rim.

The house painting continues. Almost halfway done... but it's still going to be a while before it's done.

I collect all things cow. A student from years ago gave me this cow mobile as a gift. Still enjoy watching them float about in bovine bliss!

Iced Tea

Thanks to the suggestion from the Daily Shoot- 2010/07/21: It's summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Make a photo of a cool, refreshing drink. Go for something creative. #ds248. No problem! Has to be a cold glass of iced tea!

Green Tomatoes

Wow- day #200's post! (A minor milestone.) My daughter talked me into purchasing these tomato seedlings, and she's growing them (quite well, I might add) in a pot on our deck. It won't be long now! Now just 165 more posts to go!

Garage

The second benchmark in painting our house. Last week it was the porch that came to fruition. Today it was our garage and shop. The blue is more wedgewood than it appears here, but we do like it!

Hydration

It's been really hot lately. Important to stay hydrated.

This Old House

We are painting our house this summer for the first time in 13 years. Little by little it is getting finished. This afternoon the screened-in porch "came back online". Now to grab the two books I'm working on this summer... and a cold iced coffee!

More Fungus Among Us

This mushroom seemed to spring up overnight. Don't think I'd be eating this one!

Bumblebee

I have no idea what type of flowering bush this is, but the bees were loving it this afternoon when I shot this bumblebee. I couldn't believe all the pollen on this guy's legs!

At least this humid weather is good for something- lots of variety in fungal growth!

Safety

Took a drive to a local town landing this evening. Had hoped to get a cool shot of a sailboat sitting in the fog. Instead I found low tide... and no fog. Plan B- I found some curious objects about the dock to shoot. As I posted them it occurred to me that both the life preservers and cleat are responsible for keeping boaters (and their boats) safe, giving me not only shots, but a theme to boot! Plan B can be a very good thing!

Pump

Our house is over 125 years old. In our front yard sits this pump atop the well that likely provided the house's occupants with water. It actually still works, although we haven't used it regularly in years. I love the words "Modern Ironworks" in the second macro shot. Seems so ironic! Makes me reflect on the challenges that those who came before endured, versus the luxuries we are presented with today. How times have changed!

My car is ready for sale. It's clean and shiny, and I hope will sell soon so I can start bargaining on a replacement!

Grasshopper

While back at the lake today I caught several shots of this grasshopper. When I viewed this shot, the first thing I thought was that it looks like it was taken in a disco or something! In reality, it was a lucky shot of the critter on my daughter's pink inflatable water mattress. Still pretty wild, though!

Fresh Blueberries

The wacky weather this year has had an awesome effect on my blueberry bushes. Won't be long now!

Hello! Anyone Home?

I was working at my computer this morning, and kept hearing what seemed like scratching on the screen behind me. Turned around to find Graham experimenting with the staging set up to paint the house. Clearly he has found the benefit in getting our attention. If he'd just pick up a paintbrush too!
