About Project 365

Thanks for stopping by my blog! This is Year 2 of my Project365 blog. What is a Project 365? It's a photo challenge involving people from all over the world posting one photo per day throughout 2011. Some photographers choose themes, however for now my photos will be totally random. I will be shooting with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi-18-55mm, 75-300mm zoom and 100mm 2.8 macro lenses. I edit in iPhoto and Photoshop Elements 9. Not all photos are "perfect"; the purpose is to make photography an everyday event.

I am not a professional. Photography has always been a diversion of mine. I am a primary grade teacher and passionate tech. enthusiast. I consider myself an experienced amateur with LOTS to learn!

You will find links to other photographers in the sidebar- do check them out! I have also joined the Flickr EdTech 365/2011 Group, and you can click this link to view the entire pool. I will be posting my photos to their group pool, as well as here on my photo blog. I welcome your constructive criticism!

Guidelines

1. Photos are to be taken in 2011.
2. Post your own work only.
3. Images may be edited or unedited- your choice.
4. Keep your images, text, and comments appropriate for all ages.
5. HAVE FUN!

What Am I?

Found this critter in my garage this morning caught in a spider's web. I took pity and decided to free him. (He actually hissed at me.) But he was the most bizarre-looking insect I've seen in a while! About an inch long, and his antennae were easily twice as long as his body, with little joints along the length of each one, making it possible for him to flex them like appendages. Kind of freaked me out a little! An hour later after he'd disappeared, I began to wonder if he was some type of invasive, destructive species. I might just send his "portrait" to the Forest Service to be sure! Anybody out there know what this creepy critter is?

  1. Not sure what kind but we think it's a type of cricket. Be sure to let us know when you find out. Great close up by the way!

  2. That can't be a cricket - the legs are far too short. I'd go for some sort of roach...

  3. Here's more info. My husband found MORE of these creatures in a load of pine logs he'd removed from some land across town. When he rolled the logs off the trailer, there were tons of little sawdust piles under the logs; clearly these critters destroy wood. (Not sure if it has to be diseased wood or not.)

  4. Some sort of beetle I'd guess, there is a very destructive asian one, The long horn beetle.

  5. That's the one I was worried about... but it apparently has white spots on it also, and this one has none. Curious!

  6. Great close-up! I'm one of those people who doesn't like to kill insects but RESCUE one? Not me! I hope he and his friends decide to take up residence elsewhere....
